The Argenta Oreana Community Basketball Organization
has adopted the American
Sport
Education Program (ASEP), and
the Illinois Elementary School
(IESA) by laws that can be
applied to this organization.
What is the ASEP?
The ASEP is a national organization that has developed training
programs for teaching coaches, sport administrators, officials,
and parents how to interact with young athletes, and each other.
This is the same organization that trains and educates our A-O
High School Coaches, and provides them with their IHSA
Certification.
What are the IESA by laws?
The by laws are guidelines, and rules in which all IESA sport
programs are governed. These by laws contain sportsmanship
rules, and violation penalties that the A-O Community
Basketball Organization has adopted.
The goals of the program are to:
-
Create an environment in which children and adults have fun with
basketball.
-
Kids first, winning second.
-
Teach basketball skill, rules and strategy with an emphasis on
good sportsmanship.
-
Promote increased self-esteem among our children and adults.
Curriculum Handbooks have
been adopted, these handbooks outline
ASEP, and the IESA guidelines, and expectations. Handbooks will be
made available thru your child. These handbooks contain forms that must be signed and returned in order to participate.
The program is open to all third,
fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. The sixth and
fifth grade teams play area
teams while the fourth and third grade teams play each other.
The sixth grade team will play to full high school rules.
The fifth grade students play full high school rules, except
they are limited to half court presses until the final two
minutes of the game.
The fourth and third grade teams have a set of rules aimed for their
skill level. Highlights of the rules are nine foot rims, no full
or half court pressing, and only a man-to-man defense is allowed.
Please encourage our children to participate and enjoy the season.
The attached Skill Builders
are some simple basketball drills designed by grade level to
help Build Your Skills at Home. The use of these drills at
home will provide an essential benefit to development of your
basketball abilities.
